Signs of Yeast Overgrowth

What is Yeast Overgrowth and What are the symptoms?    Yeast Overgrowth, or what is called Candida overgrowth occurs when there is an over population of a fungi in the body called Candida albicans. Many women  are somewhat familiar with this problem when dealing with yeast infections. But Candida not only affects women but also men and children. Babies get thrush which is yeast  infection in their mouth which look like white patches on the mouth, tongue and roof of their mouth.  Thrush is usaully passed from mother to baby in the birth canal.

A Yeast overgrowth can result in leaky gut syndrome if not taken care of quickly.

What can cause a yeast infection or overgrowth of Candida?  Yeast loves sugar. If you ingest too much sugar in foods or drinks you are likely to develop problems with a yeast overgrowth. Once yeast starts to take over your intestines, it can be very hard to get rid of and may take  some time to get it under control.

Antibiotics can lead to yeast infections or overgrowth of Candida if you are not careful to take probiotics along with your antibiotic treatment. If you are on a particularly strong or long antibiotic regimen, you may want to talk to your doctor about how much probiotics and what kind of probiotics you should take.  * If you believe you have a yeast infection, please seek the advice of your doctor first and foremost.

This ITCH is Driving me NUTS!

So, you're in the throes of an infection-  My heart goes out to you, my friend! Here's some tips that may help when the itch is unbearable.

  • Immediatelly STOP eating/drinking sugar! Eat lots of veggies. Don't even eat any fruit for about a month. You'll need to starve that yeast. It will eventually go away with a better diet and the advice of your doctor.

  • Take plenty of probiotics and maybe get a script from the doc for that yeast infection.

  • Don't scratch, especially with long nails. This may be a little TMI, but if you break your skin and develop another infection on top of what you're already dealing with, ....you don't want to go through that HELL!

  • Use sitz bath for the itchy butt. Don't overwash with soups which will cause more itching and irritation.

  • Use some Witch Hazel on some non-scented baby wipes to clean yourself.

  • Be patient and eat a better diet with the probiotics. It WILL get better!

  • Excerise. Good blood flow will help bring healing.
